Desktop/Laptop Policy


  • Desktops are identified with unique number.
  • The Active Directory is configured on the DOMAIN-SERVER under the domain Cygnet.com and replication of Active Directory is configured on the PROJECT-SERVER under the domain Cygnet.com for Backup purpose.
  • Login for each user is created to work on the Desktop authenticating the Active Directory security with standard user rights.
  • Local Administrator password for Desktop is kept confidential and the same should be available to the System Administrator, Information Security Officer, or the Managing Director.
  • No other local user for Desktop should be created. In case if such requirement arises, permission should be taken from the Reporting Manager and Information Security Officer or Managing Director.
  • A Guest account will be available for temporary users like clients, visitors etc. on request with limited access.
  • Any software installation / removal can be done only through System Administrator or with the permission of Information Security Officer.
  • Users cannot take or copy any data from their desktops to any storage device without permission of reporting manager and Information Security Officer or Managing Director.
  • Users are requested to change their passwords every month.
  • Screen savers with password protection on resume and Corporate Desktop backgrounds are enforced by SA to reduce the risks of unauthorized access, loss of, and damage to information.
  • Disk clean is conducted every month by the users and disk defragmentation is run every quarter by SA to check the bad sectors of the hard drives. In case of hard drive failure, risk due to increase in bad sectors, hard drive is replaced.
  • Logs for the same are maintained in Maintenance Logs and the same submitted to ISO or on SA Share point every month or as per the requirements.
  • Automatic updates and firewall for Operating System are kept on.
  • Desktop preventive maintenance is done every quarter and the logs for the same are maintained in Preventive Maintenance Log.
  • For backup one cygnet user is configured on the laptop. Cygnet user has a local admin rights on the laptop and cygnet user password is kept with system administrator and ISO.
  • If anyone wants to take laptop at home or outside the premises then they have to take permission from the ISO via email. Users have to sign in the register when they take laptop as well as when they return the same.
